Where the English are Loved

Go almost anywhere in the world today and you will come across an ambivilance, maybe even hatred, of the english. This is due to our interntional reputation as opressors or even warmongers - we just have to accept that our government has put us in this situation.

However there is one place that we can go where we are truely loved - the USA. (You will note that I have stressed the “english”- for even the scottish here are batting on a sticky wicket following the release of the Lockerbie bomber.) Having visited the states on many occassions I can assure you that on the other side of the pond the english will be welcomed as long lost brothers and it makes you feel warm and wanted.

So where to visit in this home away from home? Let’s start with Florida and in particular Fort Lauderdale.

Fort Lauderdale is a modern day Venice just noth of brash and bustling Miami. The weather is to die for all year round, though I would recommend visiting in the spring. The city is a maze of canals and this is one of the best ways to get around, using the economic and very pleasant water taxis - the driver will also point out places of interest including the homes of the rich and famous, of which there are many - Ft. Lauderdale is not a cheap place to live and waterfront property can run anything up to $60m! And if you think that’s crazy, you should just look at what they spend on luxury bedding!

As for entertainment - well you won’t run out of things to do - the beaches are beautiful and clean, the restaurants and bars numerous and then there is the watersports - whatever you want to do, it’s here!

And the best thing for us Brits - they speak English - and of course love us!
